Stephen Curry – 28 Pts, 10 Rebounds, 7 Assists!

After a dismal week against the San Antonio Spurs, the Golden State Warriors and the new ‘old’ recruit Andrew Bogut hit back against the Memphis Grizzlies. Stephen Curry starred, blowing the Grizzlies of the court in the 103/118 defeat by the Warriors.

Bogut seems now to have settled in. Playing a full season here with the Sydney Kings seems to have had no ill effect.

Andrew Bogut – Back with the Golden State Warriors

In a lot of ways Andrew Bogut was the pioneer for Australian Basketballers in the sport’s premium competition – the NBA. And right now he is returning to his NBA team the reigning champions – The Golden State Warriors – for his first game this season against the Indiana Pacers.

Andrew is another ‘Melbourne Boy’. His parents were Croatian immigrants, migrating here in the 1970s. He grew up playing AFL as well as Basketball. On the way to the NBA he played in the South East Australian Basketball League. As an under 19 he was named the most valuable player in the 2003 FIBA World Cup, the competition having been played in Greece.

Drafted to the Milwaukee Bucks, he was the first Australian ever taken as a Number 1 draft pick. He played with the Bucks from 2005-2012.

He has now played for the Golden State Warriors for a total of 5 seasons.

Probably worth mentioning that Andrew stands 7ft tall in the old imperial measurements, and Andrew – he can certainly play the hoop game!

Here’s the full report on his return:

Bogut set for Warriors return game next week

Andrew Bogut appears set to make his NBA return to the Golden State Warriors next week against the Indiana Pacers.

There had been hopes the Australian centre might join the reigning champions during their four-game road trip that begins at the Houston Rockets on Wednesday and includes games against the Oklahoma City Thunder, the San Antonio Spurs and concludes on Tuesday in Minnesota against the Timberwolves.

But Bogut’s agent David Bauman told the Bay Area News Group that the veteran Australian is targetting his return after the road trip.

Bogut will receive a jubilant welcome from Warriors fans if his first game is at the team’s sold-out Oracle Arena on Thursday week against the Pacers.

The 34-year-old, beloved in the San Francisco Bay Area after he helped the Warriors win a title in 2015 before he was shipped to the Dallas Mavericks the following year, has had his NBA return held up by the process involved in obtaining a US work visa.

Bogut is expected to receive the visa from the US Consulate in Sydney by the end of the week before he flies to California.

The top pick in the 2005 NBA Draft, Bogut made the surprise move back to the Warriors after he recently claimed NBL MVP and defensive player of the year honours in his inaugural season with the Sydney Kings.

The Warriors, favourites to win their fourth title in five years, swooped in and signed him to a veteran’s minimum contract on March 6 to bolster their front court for the impending play-off run.

The playoffs begin on April 13.

Ben Simmons – he wanted to play Cricket for Australia

“Every time I step on the floor or whatever I’m doing, I’m always representing Australia and especially Philadelphia,” he said post-game. “I have two homes now, it’s an amazing feeling I’m representing something much bigger than myself and my family.”

In 11 minutes, Simmons threw down 18 points, two rebounds and two assists. – Philly 76’s 114 vs Orlando Magic 106, 5/3/19

Ben Simmons athleticism is clear when you watch an NBA game and like many stars, he excelled at many sports as a youngster.

The 22-year-old Aussie said he showed plenty of promise in rugby league and Aussie rules but the Philadelphia 76ers star said he couldn’t go down the route of becoming a star cricketers with one major roadblock holding back his potential.

“I’m six foot 10 (208cm tall),” Simmons told reporters. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen a six foot 10 cricket player.”

He’s pretty right about that, the two tallest Australian cricketers were Peter George and Bruce Reid, both six foot eight.

But the tallest first-class and international cricketer is Mohammed Irfan who is seven foot one.

Still, the Aussie star found his sport, making Australian basketball history as the first Aussie to be selected in the NBA All-Star game, which will be played Monday at midday AEDT and will be live on ESPN and Kayo Sports.

But first Simmons will play for the World Team against the best young US stars in the Rising Stars game, the traditional match between the NBAs best first and second-year players.

While Simmons was at the centre of an All-Star first with a trade for Russell Westbrook, Simmons said he was looking forward to working with Dallas Mavericks rookie Luka Doncic, who he predicts to follow in his footsteps and be named the NBA Rookie of the Year.

Despite his cricket career not panning out, Simmons is still eager to represent Australia however, potentially as early as two exhibition games against Team USA in Melbourne in August and even the Boomers’ World Cup campaign in China.

“I’m not really focused on it right now, but I know when I have the right opportunity to go play and represent Australia I’ll do that,” Simmons said.

Simmons was embroiled in controversy the past week when news broke he was interested in working out with Magic Johnson, the Los Angeles Lakers legend and president of the team’s basketball operations.

Simmons explained his desire to learn from the game’s greats.

“I mean, whenever you have an opportunity to talk to a Hall of Famer regardless of who it is you want to get some information and learn from them,” Simmons said.

Johnson and the Lakers, keen to add All-Stars to their roster, have been fined for breaching the NBA’s tampering rules the past year.

The NBA cleared Johnson and the Lakers on Tuesday after finding it was the 76ers who initiated the contact “with the Los Angeles Lakers by requesting a meeting between Johnson and Simmons”.
Simmons was asked to name his basketball role models growing up and he chose James and Johnson.

“Somebody I looked up to as a player was LeBron, for sure,” Simmons said. “I watched a lot of Magic highlights.

“So I think those are the two guys I have really looked at.”

The NBA is hotting up. Ben Simmons is the current MVP on his latest performances. Judging by the comments on some of the videos, the US fans are somewhat miffed that an Aussie can stroll in and take centre stage. Now it appears 13 year NBA veteran, Andrew Bogart, currently a free agent after a year with the Sydney Kings, is being courted by a number of clubs as well.

The standards required to achieve NBA professionalism start with the playing surface young players are trained on. It’s vitally important that the Timber Sports Flooring is FIFA approved and fully maintained to the highest standard. Ben Simmons started playing Basketball as a child in Knox – Melbourne’s Eastern Suburbs.

Nellakir are the leading installers of genuine Sprung Timber Sports Flooring utilising the ASF/Horner range of products to achieve the highest standards of professional playing surfaces, whether at major stadiums like the State Basketball Centre in Wantirna, the Bendigo Stadium or many more first class locations, or maybe just your local State Primary School.

LeBron Ices win over Pelicans with a Triple.

It’s hard to keep a champion down. After successive losses, LeBron and the Lakers fire up against the Pelicans. Here’s the full report…

LeBron’s Unreal Triple Ices Win Over Pelicans

Clock running out, defender all over him, fading away on one leg: ideal conditions for LeBron James.

The Lakers were nursing a three-point lead with only 31 seconds left when James stepped back for a ridiculous corner 3-pointer to put the game on ice for a 125-119 win over New Orleans.

“I think he had his hands in the air before it went in,” coach Luke Walton said. “That’s what great players do. That’s an impossible shot and we needed it at that moment. We had kind of stalled out offensively. A big-time shot by one of the all-time greats.”

Having lost four of their previous five games, the Lakers (30-31) needed to get back in the win column to avoid falling further in the Western Conference playoff race.

Unsurprisingly, James was the one leading the way with 33 points and 10 assists. He constantly powered through the Pelicans’ interior defense while also stepping out for four 3-pointers, including his insane trey in the final minute.

But it took more than one player to overcome a spirited effort from New Orleans (27-36), which was led by former Laker Julius Randle (35 points) and L.A. native Jrue Holiday (19 points, 10 assists).

The Lakers trotted out a small-ball starting lineup, replacing 7-footer JaVale McGee with 6-foot-1 Rajon Rondo.

“We needed to win,” Walton said. “Rondo’s won championships. He’s an NBA champion. Let’s get him on the court and see what happens.”

The point guard was instrumental in his team’s attack, handing out a season-high 16 assists while also pitching in 11 points.

A couple of those dimes came during the most explosive part of the night. The Lakers trailed by five midway through the third quarter when Kyle Kuzma (22 points) suddenly erupted.

The 23-year-old threw down three monstrous dunks in a two-minute stretch, while LeBron provided one of his own, sending the crowd into hysterics.

“Those were huge momentum plays for our ball club,” James said, “which the fans loved and we loved it for them.”

The Lakers rode that momentum the rest of the way, though they still needed some clutch moments to pull out the victory. New Orleans cut their lead to just one with 1:38 left, when they turned to their hot hand.

Brandon Ingram — who continued his impressive four-game streak with 23 points — attacked his man off the dribble, getting to the rim and scoring despite a tough finish.

Then LeBron asserted himself on the defensive end, switching onto Holiday and stripping the point guard of the ball. When the Pelicans forced him into a tough shot on the ensuing possession, he turned dire circumstances into an unreal bucket.

“LeBron did what LeBron does,” Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry said. “He makes an almost impossible shot in the corner and that put a lot of pressure on us. That really was the one that decided the game.”
