Nellakir and Netball

In Australia, Netball is one of the most popular and fastest growing sports for women and girls. From primary school through to National Competition, the sport is now being acknowledged for its universal appeal and popularity Australia wide.

Here in Victoria, the State Government has recognised this fact and provided funding for a series of new Competition Courts (using Sprung Timber Sports Flooring). Nellakir is in the final stages of installing these new courts and when permitted we will provide a viewing here for all to enjoy.

Add to this the installations the Victorian State government is implementing through its VSBA program where all new schools built feature a multipurpose Court finished in Timber Sports Flooring for the students and community to compete at Netball, Basketball and other sports such as Gymnastics, Volleyball and a full range of indoor sports.

Nellakir are the experts in the professional installation and maintenance of all Timber Sports Flooring using the ASF/Horner Timber Sports Flooring Systems exclusively throughout Victoria and Tasmania.

The popularity of Netball, to continue, can be measured by the increasing Media acceptance of the game being played at its highest level – the Suncorp Super Netball Competition where a new five year Broadcast Deal has been completed. Read about it here…

Broadcast rights deal signals new era for netball

Netball Australia, the Super Netball League Commission and the Foxtel Group have announced a new five-year broadcast and digital rights deal, set to begin in 2022.

Netball Australia, the Super Netball League Commission and the Foxtel Group today announced a ground-breaking new five-year broadcast and digital rights deal which will cement Suncorp Super Netball as the world’s number one elite netball competition.

The new agreement, commencing in 2022, has been structured to ensure elite netball remains highly accessible to its growing base of fans throughout Australia while increasing investment in match production.

Under the innovative agreement:

Every game of every round of the Suncorp Super Netball competition will be available live and ad-break free during play on Foxtel Group platforms including Foxtel and Australia’s number one sports streaming app, Kayo Sports.
Every week, two Suncorp Super Netball games will be available live and free as part of Kayo’s recently announced Kayo Freebies, along with every match of the Suncorp Super Netball Finals Series.
Origin Australian Diamonds matches will also be available free on Kayo Freebies.
Fox Sports, Australia’s leading producer of elite sports television, will undertake the production of all matches played in Australia and develop new netball magazine shows to deepen fan engagement, including a presence for shows on Kayo Freebies.

The new deal also provides for a major financial reset to professional netball delivering certainty to Suncorp Super Netball’s eight clubs and, for the first time, providing the financial strength for Suncorp Super Netball elite player salaries to be paid by the league. This in turn will provide member organisations and clubs greater freedom to support and promote the grassroots game.

Netball Australia interim CEO, Ron Steiner said: “This is a landmark deal for the sport and provides the foundation for Suncorp Super Netball to grow and enhance its status as the best elite netball competition in the world.”

‘’It also provides financial security that will enable netball’s member organisations to nurture what is Australia’s number one female team participation sport. Netball’s mission is to empower women and girls and connect communities, and the wide-ranging impact of this deal will drive those outcomes.’’

Super Netball League Commission Chair Marina Go said: “This agreement follows intense interest and negotiation with several parties who were keenly aware of netball’s unique position within Australian sport.

‘’We are delighted to be partnering with such a strong and well-regarded organisation and look forward to bringing our fierce and exciting sport to the Foxtel Group’s audience including Kayo’s rapidly growing customer base.

‘’There are many winners in this deal, and that includes the world’s best netball players who will enjoy contract security and some of the best conditions of any female athletes anywhere.’’

Foxtel Chief Content and Commercial Officer Amanda Laing said: “We are incredibly pleased to be joining Netball Australia to play our part in consolidating Suncorp Super Netball as the world’s number one elite netball competition.

“By bringing the free and paid broadcast and digital rights together, we can establish a more consistent competition schedule which will strengthen audience engagement. We have a reputation for innovation and will use our production expertise and marketing capability across Foxtel and Kayo to support netball’s continued growth.

“Suncorp Super Netball players are extraordinary athletes and striking ambassadors for their sport. We will work with the players, clubs, sponsors and the whole netball community to raise their profile and deliver the recognition and rewards which they deserve”.

“As the most established elite women’s sport in Australia, netball joins an exciting and diverse range of women’s and men’s sports who have chosen to partner with Foxtel and Kayo.”

The upcoming 2021 Suncorp Super Netball Season will be broadcast on Nine, Telstra TV and the Netball Live Official app from Saturday, May 1.

Ms Go and Mr Steiner thanked the Nine network and Telstra for supporting Suncorp Super Netball during a crucial period of growth and consolidation.

‘’Nine and Telstra saw the potential of the league and provided support at a critical time. We look forward to working closely with them during season 2021 and thank them for their commitment to the game,’’ Mr Steiner said.

Annual Maintenance on Timber Sports Flooring is critical. Make sure your facility is ready for the resumption of Competition.

Most Sports Flooring normally experiences constant usage. It’s designed and built to do so. Specialist timber flooring is set up to allow for competitive action and foot traffic on a daily basis. What has been unusual this year is that many stadiums and their competition courts whether for Basketball, Netball and gymnastics have stood idle. It is a sensible strategy to engage an expert for an inspection prior to resuming full usage.

Nellakir are Victoria and Tasmania’s leading experts in the Installation, Maintenance and scheduled professional cleaning of all Timber Sports Flooring. The Nellakir team also fit, repair and maintain retractable stadium seating. With such a long period of non-use on many facilities, an inspection will pin-point potential problems to be rectified prior to full resumption of competition.

Nellakir use and recommend ASF/Horner Timber Sports Flooring Systems, Australia’s leading suppliers of Timber Sports Flooring. ASF/Horner Sports Flooring is FIBA approved and used widely for stadiums presenting major competitions such as the NBL and the Super Netball Series.

Whilst we prepare for 2020/21 resumptions of both premium and local competitions, the LA Lakers have locked down Basketball’s No.1 – Lebron James, on a deal for the next 3 years reportedly worth $168.8 million (Aust). Read about it here…

What LeBron’s monster $115m deal means for the Lakers, and the wild NBA theory it triggered

Los Angeles Lakers and LeBron James have reportedly agreed to a two-year deal worth $85 million ($A115m) that will keep the superstar at the franchise until the end of the 2023 season.

James is expected to make $39.2 million ($A53.0m) in 2020-21, $41.2 million ($A55.7m) in 2021-22 and $44.5 million ($A60.1m) in 2022-23.

The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported the news on Thursday morning [AEDT].

His new contract runs through until the end of 2023, when his son Bronny graduates from high school and could enter the NBA Draft if the league and NBPA alter the high school-to-pro rule.

The latest development means Oklahoma City Thunder general manager Sam Presti could try use all the draft picks he has worked to get together over the years to lure LeBron and Bronny in 2023.

Regardless, the timing of it will mean James can sort both his future and that of his son at the same time, giving him plenty of power to secure the best deal.

His own farewell tour could end with LeBron and Bronny becoming the first father-son duo to play at the same time.

The general consensus is that James’ contract extension will be shortly followed by that of Anthony Davis, who is expected to recommit to the Lakers.

Davis could sign a 2+1 deal which would make sure his contract lined up with that of James and keeps them in the frame for the title through to 2023.

It would also allow him to opt out after 10 seasons in the NBA to get the full 35 per cent max.

Davis became an unrestricted free agent when he opted out of the final year of his contract but was always expected to re-sign with the Lakers, the only uncertainty surrounded the exact details of what his contract would look like.
