Netball Australia Chief Commercial Officer and EGM of Events, Dave Lee is pleased to release the full 17-week fixture today.

“The Suncorp Super Netball league is delighted to be welcoming fans back to matches across the country in 2021 for a full home and away season,” he said.

“The world’s premier netball league will be making a return to states that didn’t get to watch a match live in 2020 and we know the athletes are incredibly excited to have the cheer of a home crowd behind them. There is just so much to look forward to this season with team rivalries greater than ever before.

“With the uncertainty in today’s world, we have worked closely with clubs, broadcasters and venues to put strong contingencies in place for this entire fixture, ensuring we’re best placed to keep the 2021 season going if various borders close throughout the year.”

Mim Haysom, Suncorp Executive General Manager Brand & Marketing said, “Suncorp is delighted to continue our support of Suncorp Super Netball and together with netball fans nationally, eagerly anticipate a season of exciting match-ups and hopefully plenty of opportunity for fans to get close to the live action in venues.

“Suncorp is proud to be committed to supporting women’s sport, and every level of netball, from our juniors in Suncorp NetSetGO programs all the way to the aspirational role models and high performing athletes we see on the court in Suncorp Super Netball.”

The popularity of Netball, to continue, can be measured by the increasing Media acceptance of the game being played at its highest level – the Suncorp Super Netball Competition where a new five year Broadcast Deal has been completed. Read about it here…

Broadcast rights deal signals new era for netball

Netball Australia, the Super Netball League Commission and the Foxtel Group have announced a new five-year broadcast and digital rights deal, set to begin in 2022.

Netball Australia, the Super Netball League Commission and the Foxtel Group today announced a ground-breaking new five-year broadcast and digital rights deal which will cement Suncorp Super Netball as the world’s number one elite netball competition.

The new agreement, commencing in 2022, has been structured to ensure elite netball remains highly accessible to its growing base of fans throughout Australia while increasing investment in match production.

Under the innovative agreement:

Every game of every round of the Suncorp Super Netball competition will be available live and ad-break free during play on Foxtel Group platforms including Foxtel and Australia’s number one sports streaming app, Kayo Sports.
Every week, two Suncorp Super Netball games will be available live and free as part of Kayo’s recently announced Kayo Freebies, along with every match of the Suncorp Super Netball Finals Series.
Origin Australian Diamonds matches will also be available free on Kayo Freebies.
Fox Sports, Australia’s leading producer of elite sports television, will undertake the production of all matches played in Australia and develop new netball magazine shows to deepen fan engagement, including a presence for shows on Kayo Freebies.

The new deal also provides for a major financial reset to professional netball delivering certainty to Suncorp Super Netball’s eight clubs and, for the first time, providing the financial strength for Suncorp Super Netball elite player salaries to be paid by the league. This in turn will provide member organisations and clubs greater freedom to support and promote the grassroots game.

Netball Australia interim CEO, Ron Steiner said: “This is a landmark deal for the sport and provides the foundation for Suncorp Super Netball to grow and enhance its status as the best elite netball competition in the world.”

‘’It also provides financial security that will enable netball’s member organisations to nurture what is Australia’s number one female team participation sport. Netball’s mission is to empower women and girls and connect communities, and the wide-ranging impact of this deal will drive those outcomes.’’

Super Netball League Commission Chair Marina Go said: “This agreement follows intense interest and negotiation with several parties who were keenly aware of netball’s unique position within Australian sport.

‘’We are delighted to be partnering with such a strong and well-regarded organisation and look forward to bringing our fierce and exciting sport to the Foxtel Group’s audience including Kayo’s rapidly growing customer base.

‘’There are many winners in this deal, and that includes the world’s best netball players who will enjoy contract security and some of the best conditions of any female athletes anywhere.’’

Foxtel Chief Content and Commercial Officer Amanda Laing said: “We are incredibly pleased to be joining Netball Australia to play our part in consolidating Suncorp Super Netball as the world’s number one elite netball competition.

“By bringing the free and paid broadcast and digital rights together, we can establish a more consistent competition schedule which will strengthen audience engagement. We have a reputation for innovation and will use our production expertise and marketing capability across Foxtel and Kayo to support netball’s continued growth.

“Suncorp Super Netball players are extraordinary athletes and striking ambassadors for their sport. We will work with the players, clubs, sponsors and the whole netball community to raise their profile and deliver the recognition and rewards which they deserve”.

“As the most established elite women’s sport in Australia, netball joins an exciting and diverse range of women’s and men’s sports who have chosen to partner with Foxtel and Kayo.”

The upcoming 2021 Suncorp Super Netball Season will be broadcast on Nine, Telstra TV and the Netball Live Official app from Saturday, May 1.

Ms Go and Mr Steiner thanked the Nine network and Telstra for supporting Suncorp Super Netball during a crucial period of growth and consolidation.

‘’Nine and Telstra saw the potential of the league and provided support at a critical time. We look forward to working closely with them during season 2021 and thank them for their commitment to the game,’’ Mr Steiner said.

Suncorp Super Netball Action – The Melbourne Vixens make a statement!

SSN-TOY-Players-MV-Website

With local competitions in recess, all eyes turn to the National Suncorp Super Netball action. The Melbourne Vixens look like taking full advantage of the Hub with a strong victory over the Sunshine Coast Lightning.

Here’s a report on the game which was held on the 12th of August at the University of the Sunshine Coast Stadium.

Vixens remain on top

The Melbourne Vixens have sounded a warning to the rest of the Suncorp Super Netball competition after defeating the Sunshine Coast Lightning 63-51.

The Vixens were in the unusual position of hosting the Lightning at USC Stadium on the Sunshine Coast but the Melbourne club made themselves at home with another classy performance.

The two teams had yet to taste defeat heading into the top-of-the-table clash but the Vixens set up their third successive win with a dominant opening half, building an impressive 15-goal lead by halftime.

Super Netball Rd 6 - Lightning v Vixens“It definitely didn’t feel like we were up that much,” Vixens co-captain Kate Moloney said about her team’s strong start.

“We knew the Lightning were going to come hard at us, they’re a super quality team but I’m really proud of our girls to be able to push it out all the way to the end.”

The victory was a fitting result for Moloney as she joined current teammate Tegan Philip and Bianca Chatfield as the third Vixen to play 100 national league games.

The reliable midcourter took the points in her match-up with Lightning captain Laura Langman, claiming player of the match with 22 circle feeds and 13 assists, while Jo Weston was a standout in defence for the Vixens.

The Vixens burst out of the blocks with nine of the first 11 goals of the game but the Lightning’s attack started to flow when Steph Wood shifted to goal shooter and Cara Koenen cashed in on a Karla Pretorius intercept to reduce Melbourne’s lead to three.

But Caitlin Thwaites drained a Suncorp Super Shot on the siren for a 16-11 advantage and the Vixens kept rolling with an 8-2 start in the second term before Thwaites and Tegan Philip combined for four super shots in the rebel Power Five period to go into halftime ahead 34-19.

The Lightning managed to reduce the margin to single digits at stages of the third and fourth quarters but the Vixens had all the answers with Thwaites, Philip and Mwai Kumwenda each playing their part to keep their attack on song.
